Why Teen Yoga?

During this critical developmental stage, teenagers undergo immense physical and emotional changes that can generate dramatic levels of stress. This is why the skills and lessons acquired through yoga are particularly valuable to teens. At the YMCA Teen Yoga they can learn how to have fun, stretch, strengthen and improve balance, calm their minds and nervous system, can improve social interaction, achieve life balance and stress management skills, while relaxing through breath awareness and mindfulness techniques.

 (Ages 12 +) ~ Tweens and teens will participate in challenging postures with a vinyasa flow class.  Visualization, breathing exercises and meditation are cultivated to develop focus, relaxation, peace of mind, and overall balance in daily life.  Emotional balance, mental benefits, and healtteen-yoga-with-shari-dalehy body image are developed with positive self-awareness and self-esteem.Children will cultivate strength, flexibility, confidence, self-expression, respect and character.

*All within a non-competitive, non-judgmental environment.

Teen Yoga creates a solid foundation for young people. Students are encouraged to build personal and interpersonal awareness and practice compassion and loving kindness towards themselves and others, both on and off the mat.

The posture of today’s teenager has been greatly compromised by the inordinate amount of time they typically spend with technology. Our classes focus on understanding healthy movement patterns and implementing ideal postural alignment. Other key benefits of the YMCA classes for teens:
